Charles Boulton

Grocer &c., Parkfield Road, Pucklechurch

Charles Boulton was born in Tetbury, Gloucestershire in 1845, baptised 19 June at Tetbury at 8 weeks old on the Dursley Methodist Circuit, son of Charles and Mary Boulton. When Charles was in his teens, he went to work for Stephen Page, who was a grocer and draper and general shopkeeper in the village of Pucklechurch. Charles married Emma, daughter of William Preece a railway policeman, and a Pucklechurch resident, at Bristol St. James, on 5 Sept. 1865 and the couple went on to have 9 children. Emma was born in Pucklechurch and was living with her sister who was a beer retailer next door to her parents before she married Charles. It seems that around the time of his marriage Charles had set up business on his own account in the village, whilst Stephen Page still retained his original Grocer's shop.

Children of Charles & Emma:
Frederick Lloyd 1866-1935
Flora 1868-1921
Emily Mary 1870-1948
William Charles 1872-1935
Blanche 1874-Married Fred Dunscombe 1899-emigrated to Canada.
Frank 1878-1942
Archibald 1880-1959
Jonathan Preece 1882-1971
George Wilfred 1886-1919

Charles died on Christmas Eve 1901. It seems that Charles remained at the shop as Grocer and Provision Merchant until the time of his death.
