Edwin John Lee

Grocer & Provision Merchant


    Edwin John Lee was born in Islington, London in 1864, son of John Lee of Ilfracombe, Devon, and Jane Brinkworth of Chippenham, Wilts. John and Jane had married in Chippenham in 1863. They were living in Hackney in 1871 where Edwin's father, John, was a letter sorter at the G. P. O.

    In 1881 the family had moved to Priory Street in Corsham, Wilts. where Edwin was a Grocer's apprentice. By 1891 the family were in Melksham.

    Edwin married Ada Anne Hatherell Moore, from Poulshot, in Melksham in 1888. They didn't have any children of their own, but adopted a daughter, Dorothy Elena Woodward. By 1901 Edwin was listed as retired grocer, in Bank Street.Edwin later lived at 55 Sandridge Road, Melksham. He died at Melksham Hospital on 9th May 1939.
