HENRY OSMOND

CHINA, GLASS & FURNISHING IRONMONGER


    Henry Osmond was born in Corsham in 1842, bapt. 10th April, the son of Richard Osmond of Aldbourne, Wilts. and his wife Jane of Corsham. Henry married Lydia Ann Stokes in St. Thomas, Bristol, on 14th Jul. 1868. They had at least 6 children Elizabeth Ada Stokes Osmond (b. 1869, bapt. 13th Feb.); Ada Blanche Stokes Osmond (b. 1870, bapt. 10th Mar. 1872); Ella Louisa Stokes Osmond (b. 1872, bapt. 10th Mar.);  Kate Jane Osmond (b. 1876, bapt 14th Jan. 1877); Henry Richard Osman (b.1880) and Arthur Frederick Osmond (b. 1885).

    Henry's father was a Carrier, and Henry also became a carrier for the G. W. R., which he was in 1871, but by 1880 he had set up his China, Glass and Furnishing Ironmonger business in Pickwick Road, Corsham. The business later became known as "The Pickwick-road Emporium". He was also an oil and colour merchant. Henry's wife Lydia died in Corsham on 10th Nov. 1906. Henry died on 23rd Feb. 1924. He left his estate to eldest daughter Elizabeth Ada who assisted with the business.
